WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers blew an opportunity to go into the playoffs on a winning note after being beat by the Calgary Stampeders 13-12 last night at McMahon Stadium. Leading 12-0 in the 3rd quarter, the Bombers basically stopped doing what was making them successful all game allowing the Stamps to score 13 straight points for the win.
Zach Collaros and Bo-Levi Mitchell both started at quarterback for their respective teams; Collaros went 7 for 10 for 73 yards before being yanked to avoid injury making way for Dru Brown to make his debut. Brown went 7-of-14 for 49 yards while rushing seven times for 44 yards. Mitchel went 7 for 11 for 39 yards an essentially was ineffective before Jake Maier replaced him behind center and went 10-of-20 passes for 177 yards and threw for the game’s only touchdown. With both Andrew Harris and Brady Oliveira being rested, Johnny Augustine was sensational for the Bombers, rushing for 148 yards on 22 carries and pulling in one pass.
The Bombers finished the 2021 regular season with an 11-3 record. The Stamps finished 8-6 and will now head to Regina for the West semifinal next Sunday against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The victor will then travel to Winnipeg to play the Bombers on December 5th for the right to play in the Grey Cup on December 12th in Hamilton.
