Random Thoughts, Labour Day Classic

Random Thoughts

WINNIPEG - By now, you know the Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 20-18 on Sunday in the Labour Day Classic at Mosaic Stadium to move to 11-1. Below are some random thoughts on my weekend in Regina.

HARD WORKING WADE MILLER – At the Tim Hortons on Highway 1 in Brandon, the team had a portable Bomber Store set up in the parking lot selling merchandise for fans making the trip. Bomber staff and cheerleaders were there creating excitement, along Bomber President and CEO Wade Miller. A great way to fire up the fans!

MORE FANS THAN EVER – I cannot count the number of LDCs I have attended, but I have never seen more Bombers fans in Regina than I did this year. Most were having the time of their lives, and the booze was flowing at many restaurants and bars.

WHERE ARE THE HATERS? - Kicker Marc Liegghio had arguably the best game of his career, making a 55-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter for what would end up being the game-winning points.

CODY FAJARDO – Fajardo was excellent in the first half, but has now lost five straight games against Winnipeg dating back to the 2019 West Final. He simply cannot find ways to win against the Big Blue.

THE WHEELS ARE COMING OFF THE SASKATCHEWAN BUS – The Riders are now 6-6 on the season with the Grey Cup in being played on their turf. Jason Mass is under fire for his strange offensive play calls. Duke Williams took a costly penalty, creating a skirmish and drawing an objectionable conduct penalty while being on the sidelines IN STREET CLOTHES! Garrett Marino promised to play “smarter” when he returned from a recent four game suspension but his late hit on Zack Collaros in the fourth quarter doesn’t resemble the type of decision a smart player would make. Coach Craig Dickenson seems to have lost control of his team.

SO LONG SARA - The Riders, in a rare showing of class, recognized longtime sideline reporter Sara Orlesky ahead of her upcoming departure from TSN by showing her on the video screen at Mosaic Stadium. Her final assignment for TSN will be on Saturday at the Banjo Bowl. Kickoff at IG Field will be 4pm.
