'Just Mail Us The Cup'

WINNIPEG - “Just mail us the cup” is a text I received from a friend Wednesday afternoon after the Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced the signing of former CFL All-Star Winston Rose, the defensive back that lead the CFL in interceptions in 2019. Earlier in the week, the Big Blue acquired another 2019 All-Star, kicker Sergio Castillo, so my friend known for his dubious choices in beer, probably wasn’t far off in his text.

The 9-1 Bombers face the 4-5 BC Lions tonight at IG Field and can lock up first place with a win. Winnipeg tamed the Lions 30-9 the last time they met on October 1st in Vancouver. That night Andrew Harris rushed for 81 yards but will be sidelined with a knee injury sustained last week in Edmonton. Brady Oliveira will make his fourth start of the season at running back and will look to build on his 105-yard performance last week when Harris left the game in the third quarter. The defense, who look more ferocious each week, sacked B.C.’s Michael Reilly five times the last time the two teams met, and if fact held the Lions run game to only 16 yards. Also that night, Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros went 28 of 33 throwing for an incredible 417 yards on route to that easy win.

Expect more of the same tonight. Kickoff is 6pm (TSN3, 680 CJOB). Dress warm.
