WINNIPEG - It wasn’t exactly “CFL Classic” worthy but the defending Grey Cup champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers crushed the Edmonton Elks 37-22 last night at Commonwealth Stadium. Zach Collaros was 19 of 24 for 252 yards and a touchdown (to Darvin Adams), Nic Demski and Sean McGuire had rushing touchdowns and the Bombers got two more major scores from the defense in the victory. Adam Bighill and Willie Jefferson were once again sensational, chasing Elks QB Taylor Cornelius all over the field. As I predicted, the big pressure applied by our defense caused Cornelius to throw 3 interceptions and while being chased by Jefferson he fumbled the ball at the goal line allowing Bighill to score a TD.
Despite a few miscues in the second quarter allowing the Elks to come within 5 at halftime, the Bombers came out strong midway through the third quarter and never looked back. It’s back to the drawing board for Kyle Walters, as newly signed kicker Ali Mourtada missed all three of his field goal attempts. I wonder what Troy Westwood is up to?
The league leading Bombers are now 6-1 and next see action Friday October 1st when they travel to Vancouver to take on the BC Lions.
