WINNIPEG - There is finally a definitive light at the end of the tunnel. Tuesday, the CFL and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced their 2021 schedule. There are a lot of off-field details that have to be worked out with crowd sizes and ticket availability etc., but after nearly 2 years, on Friday August 5th, the Blue Bombers begin their quest to become the first repeat champions since the 2009 and 2010 Montreal Alouettes, with a Grey Cup rematch with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at IG Field.
The regular season continues with a home-and-home series with Toronto on August 13th and 21st, then the Bombers will match up with the team they defeated in the Western Final when they host Bo Levi Mitchell and the Calgary Stampeders at home in IG Field on Saturday, August 29th. After that, the annual liver damaging series (for me anyway) against the Saskatchewan Roughriders takes place with the Labour Day Classic on Sunday, September 5th, and the Banjo Bowl on Saturday September 11th.
All in all, the Blue Bombers will play 9 of their 14 games against their West Division rivals: 3 against Edmonton, along with home-and-home series versus BC, and then sets against Calgary, and Saskatchewan. The other 5 games against East Division opponents will see the Big Blue play the previously mentioned Ti-Cats, and Argos, a home-and-home versus Montreal, but we won’t see Paul LaPolice, Matt Nichols and the Ottawa Redblacks during the shortened regular season. The 108th Grey Cup will take place on Sunday, December 12th in Hamilton.
