Best Start For Winnipeg's Bombers In 60 Years

Best Start In 60 Years

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers improved to 8-1 on the season after last night’s shellacking of the Edmonton Elks 30-3 in front of 27,388 fans at IG Field. The win was the Bombers 6th in a row, they are undefeated at home this season and in fact have won 16 of their last 17 at IG Field. They now sit 10 points ahead of the second place Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Once again, the defense was magnificent limiting the Elks to just 159 yards net offence including just 134 through the air. The D registered three sacks and forced five turnovers and made the Elks special teams give up an unheard of 3 safeties. QB Zach Collaros completed 16 of 27 pass attempts for 207 yards with one 16-yard TD toss to Nic Demski and one interception. Andrew Harris ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns and looks to have regained his Grey Cup MVP form from 2019. Bombers kicker Ali Mourtada had another rough game. He made 2 of 3 convert attempts, connected on 24-yard field goal but missed three field-goal tries from 41, 47 and 46 yards.

The Bombers are off to their best CFL start since they went 9-0 in 1960 and now have outscored their opponents this season in the fourth quarter 81-6. The Bombers travel to Edmonton to once again face the Elks on Friday night at 8pm.
