WINNIPEG - Monday's provincial cabinet shuffle seems to be designed to raise the profile of suburban Winnipeg Progressive Conservatives in danger of losing their seats in the fall election.
Premier Heather Stefanson has removed three members who have announced they will not be seeking re-election and added four backbenchers from Winnipeg’s suburbs to her inner circle.
Obby Khan is the new minister of sport, Kevin Klein has taken over the environment portfolio. Janice Morley-Lecomte is now the mental health minister and James Teitsma is in charge of government services.
Stefanson says the changes are government renewal in action but they come as her PC government continues to trail the Opposition NDP in opinion polls.
