WINNIPEG - The Manitoba Nurses’ Union says the death of a patient waiting for treatment in the emergency room of the province's biggest hospital is unsettling but not unexpected.
Union president Darlene Jackson says nurses in the ER at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg have been saying for some time they feared incidents like this would happen because of overcrowding and a shortage of staff.
When asked about the case at a news conference on Wednesday, health minister Audrey Gordon would only say she’s looking forward to receiving the results of an investigation into the death.
NDP leader Wab Kinew criticized Gordon for ending the session with reporters when pressed for more information.
