Wildfire Threat Heats Up

WINNIPEG - The wildfire threat is heating up in Manitoba.

The province is reminding people to be very careful with fire, especially in wilderness areas.

Dry conditions and hot weather have combined to send the fire danger in southern and central areas to high and even extreme.

Danger levels in the north are moderate but rising.

The Manitoba Wildfire Service says fireworks and sky lanterns are prohibited in provincial parks and camp fires are only allowed if they are burning in an approved pit.

There have been 13 new fires since Sunday, most of them east of Lake Winnipeg, but more are expected from lightening strikes.
