Wildfire Evacuees Arrive

WINNIPEG - As many as 3,000 evacuees from the Northwest Territories will begin arriving in Manitoba today.

The Yellowknife residents will be put up at hotels in Winnipeg, Brandon and Portage la Prairie.

The province is also helping by sending firefighters and equipment to battle the blaze that is burning just kilometres from the capital of the Northwest Territories.

Manitoba Wildfire plans to send an air tanker group including two water bombers, a bird dog plane and nearly two dozen personnel.

Meanwhile, British Columbia is under a province-wide state of emergency after wildfires forced the evacuation of 15,000 people, many of them in the Kelowna area.
