WINNIPEG - According to new data released by the province, black, Indigenous and people of colour had exponentially higher rates of COVID-19 than white people during the third wave of the pandemic this spring.
Dr. Marcia Anderson from the Manitoba Pandemic Response Team says a number of factors are to blame for this, including crowded housing, occupational risks and underlying chronic diseases.
She says aside from addressing housing and income inequity over the long-term, the government should consider prioritizing black, Indigenous and people of colour in the future.
