Trial Begins For Jail Guard

WINNIPEG - A trial is underway for a corrections officer in the death of an inmate.

45 year old Willian Ahmo died on February 14th, 2021, seven days after he was hurt in a clash with officers at Headingley Correctional Institute.

Court heard on Friday that Ahmo, angry about what he said was a racist comment by jail staff, went on a destructive rampage that ended with the inmate being critically injured during a violent takedown by corrections officers.

44 year old Robert Jeffrey Morden has pleaded not guilty to criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessities of life.
