WINNIPEG - A look back at some of the week's more popular stories.
- Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin says critical-level restrictions, while extended for at least two more weeks, will now allow the Winnipeg Jets to play at Bell MTS Place during the NHL season that starts on Wednesday - just without any fans in the stands. He says he reviewed the team's safety protocols and considers the COVID-19 risk to be low. Click here for more.
- Manitoba NDP MP Niki Ashton got in hot water for travelling to Greece during the pandemic to be with a sick family member, and the party, while sympathetic, said it went against public health recommendations and removed her from her role as shadow cabinet critic. In the days that followed, multiple MLAs and MPs were accused of skirting the rules this winter, including backbencher MLA James Teitsma who went to B.C. with his family; Senator Don Plett who made a quick trip to Mexico before changing his mind; MPs Sameer Zuberi and Kamal Khera; Ontario’s finance minister Rod Phillips, who resigned after vacationing in St. Barts; and Alberta municipal affairs minister Tracy Allard who took a family trip to Hawaii. The Manitoba NDP said three of their MLAs left the province between September 1 and November 12, the code red restrictions hit: leader Wab Kinew went to his home First Nation in Lake of the Woods, Ontario a couple of times and spent a weekend there; MLA Tom Lindsey lives in Flin Flon and crossed the border toward Creighton, Saskatchewan; and Bernadette Smith took a trip to Terrace, B.C.
