Substitute Teacher Shortage In Manitoba

Substitute Teacher Shortage

WINNIPEG - Staff shortages are causing more school divisions in the province to hire substitute teachers even if they are not certified.

The Manitoba Teachers' Society says the use of non-certified subs has been going on for years in rural areas.

Brandon, Sunrise and Western School Divisions all have substitute teaching positions posted where they are not requiring applicants to be certified teachers.

The MTS says larger urban centres like Winnipeg and Brandon have started to see a shortage of subs.
