WINNIPEG - The Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union says its members at the province's Crown-owned auto insurer will walk off the job today.
MGEU President Kyle Ross says they were hoping to bargain over the weekend but the Manitoba Public Insurance would not talk.
MPI says its contact centre will remain open for reporting personal injury claims, non-driveable collision claims and total-theft claims.
The employer says its comprehensive offer gives unionized employees guaranteed 17 per cent increases over four years but the union claims the wage offer is not really 17 per cent because it includes one-time payments and some non-wage items.
