WINNIPEG - Springs Church is reacting to a backlash on social media after it held a graduation ceremony last Thursday.
Online photos show groups of people together not wearing face masks.
Senior pastor Leon Fontaine says the grad was held on the last day of classes with 18 students from a single cohort at a TV studio.
He says the students were spaced out during the ceremony which was broadcast on a screen to people who were watching in their cars outside.
COVID-19 public health orders at the time did permit up to 25 post-secondary students to be in the same room together but only for in-person learning.
As a former member of this church i am deeply disappointed that this event took place against public health orders. Everyone has a duty to do their part and keep one another safe. Not only is this risky behaviour but also sends a wrong message to our youth. pic.twitter.com/AynWPdhgUb
