Racialized Hit Harder By COVID

Racialized Hit Harder By COVID

WINNIPEG - Like other jurisdictions, Indigenous and racialized communities in Manitoba are being impacted disproportionately by COVID-19.

According to a new report that looked at infections from May 1st to December 31st, 51 per cent of people testing positive self-identified as Black, Indigenous or of colour. However, those groups only make up 35 per cent of the province's population.

Chief public health officer, Dr. Brent Roussin, says these are mostly linked to pre-existing inequities, including housing and employment.
