Probe Of Death In Manitoba RCMP Cell

Probe Of Death In RCMP Cell

WINNIPEG - The province’s Independent Investigations Unit will look into the circumstances of a woman's death in an RCMP cell last week.

The Mounties say the woman was intoxicated and taken into custody Wednesday evening and put in the cell at their detachment in Chemawawin. She was found unresponsive the next morning.

RCMP say CPR was started immediately but when nurses from the community's nursing station arrived, they pronounced her dead.

Because it’s a fatality, a request for a civilian monitor will be made to the Manitoba Police Commission.
