Possible Grocery Strike In Manitoba

Possible Grocery Strike

WINNIPEG - Workers at Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills and Extra Foods in Manitoba have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action, if contract negotiations fail.

The union representing the 4,000 Loblaws employees, the United Food and Commercial Workers', says over 97 per cent of its members cast a ballot on the weekend to walk off the job, if necessary.

The UFCW says the workers have seen the headlines about Loblaws' record profits and company president Galen Weston's compensation package and they want a contract that recognizes the role they have played in that success.

The current contract expires on September 28th.
