Orange Shirt Day Funding In Manitoba

Orange Shirt Day Funding

WINNIPEG - The Manitoba government is spending over $370,000 on events for Orange Shirt Day on Friday.

The aim is to promote awareness of the history and legacy of residential schools on the day which is also known as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Events getting funding include Manitoba Museum's three days of free admission and the Two Spirited People of Manitoba's 6th annual powwow.

The province says Friday will not be a statutory holiday but non-essential government services and offices will close, along with schools.
