WINNIPEG - The Conservatives have retained the Fort Whyte riding in a provincial byelection but it was much closer than expected.
Obby Khan, a restaurant owner and former Winnipeg Blue Bomber, is the newest MLA.
However, another ex-Bomber came very close to winning the seat for the Liberals.
Willard Reeves ended up less than 200 votes behind Khan who says the message was heard and he knows he and his party have some work to do.
Trudy Schroeder finished a distant third for the NDP.
It's the first time voters have had a say since premier Heather Stefanson took over the Tories from Brian Pallister who held Fort Whyte prior to this.
