New Manitoba Metis Centre

New Metis Centre

WINNIPEG - Manitoba Metis Federation president David Chartrand says the site of the planned Metis National Heritage Centre in Winnipeg is the corner where all roads westward began.

The federal and Manitoba governments announced over the weekend they will contribute more than $33 million to build the centre at Portage and Main.

The federation and BMO announced in 2020 an agreement for the sale of the bank's historic building at the corner.

Chartrand says the centre will teach visitors about the history of the Red River Metis.
