New Bail Program In Manitoba

New Bail Program

WINNIPEG - The province has unveiled a new pilot project for suspected offenders out on bail.

The Manitoba government says the adult bail management program will launch later this spring for 25 men and 25 women who have serious charges pending before the courts.

Justice Minister Kelvin Goertzen says the program was created to address public safety concerns, as well as to make sure suspects follow the bail conditions imposed when they are released.

Recent statistics from Winnipeg Police show almost 20 per cent of people charged with violent crimes last year were out on bail at the time.
