WINNIPEG, MB. – Monarch Industries has become one of the first companies in Manitoba to be SAFE Work Certified by Made Safe. In addition, Monarch’s Winkler operation is the first foundry in the province to achieve certification.

Made Safe Executive Director Neal Curry today presented Monarch Industries COO Mitch Tetreault and Director of Foundry Operations – and senior manager for the Winkler location – Joe Castellano, with a plaque commemorating their certification at a ceremony in Winkler attended by manufacturing leaders, safety professionals and Monarch employees.

“Certification is important because employees are an organization’s lifeblood. Our workers arriving home to their families safely after a day of work is our priority,” said Curry. “Manufacturers are leading the way and certification is just one way companies like Monarch are demonstrating their industry leadership. On behalf of the manufacturing industry, we commend Monarch for their commitment to health and safety in the workplace.”

“We firmly believe that it is our responsibility to our employees and their families that we collectively do all that should be done to eliminate the risk of injury in our operations. The Made Safe certification is a public confirmation to all that our safety culture is ingrained in the thinking and actions at all levels of our organization. We thank Made Safe for their consultation and training throughout the certification process.” said Monarch President and CEO Roy Cook.

Workers Compensation Board (WCB) data shows that compared to industry averages, workplaces that implement a safety and health certification program experience 42 per cent lower injury rates and 49 per cent fewer work days taken for time-loss injuries.

SAFE Work Manitoba partners with industry-based safety associations in Manitoba’s largest sectors to support certification programs; delivered by and for industry.

“SAFE Work Manitoba, congratulates and recognizes Monarch Industries for achieving safety certification and for demonstrating safety leadership in the manufacturing industry. By doing so, Monarch is prioritizing the safety and health of its workforce and showing that a successful business is a safe one,” said Jamie Hall, Chief Operating Officer, SAFE Work Manitoba.
