WINNIPEG - A plan to smuggle over three million illegal cigarettes into Manitoba has been thwarted.
The province says its the biggest seizure ever by its Special Investigations Unit.
The bust was made with the help of Winnipeg Police, Quebec Provincial Police and Ontario Provincial Police.
The government says the confiscated smokes represent the potential loss of more than a million dollars in tobacco tax revenue.
Six people face charges under the Tobacco Tax Act, the Tax Administration and Miscellaneous Taxes Act and the Criminal Code.
