Manitoba's Surgical Backlog Grows

Surgical Backlog Grows

WINNIPEG - The surgical backlog in Manitoba is growing, according to a group that represents physicians in the province.

Doctors Manitoba says the number of surgeries and tests delayed since the COVID-19 pandemic has climbed significantly.

The waitlist has hit at least 54,820, an increase of almost 2,500 since the last update.

Dr. Kristjan Thompson, the organization's president, says the provincial government needs to add capacity to the health care system to deal with the problem.
