WINNIPEG – The Province is issuing a second call for applications for Queen’s counsel, Justice Minister Cliff Cullen announced today.

The Queen’s counsel is an opportunity for lawyers to be recognized for their exceptional contributions to the practise of law. “Our government is proud to have reinstated the Queen’s counsel designation and we have already recognized the exceptional merit of 15 lawyers in our first year,” said Cullen. “There are many lawyers in Manitoba who exemplify the best qualities of their profession and should be recognized for their many contributions.”

Queen’s counsel is an honorary title given by the lieutenant-governor based on recommendations made by the minister of justice following consultation with an advisory council. Practising and retired lawyers are eligible to nominate themselves or they may be nominated by others.

Applications for Queen’s counsel designation are valid for three years. Individuals who have previously applied do not need to re-submit unless they choose to provide new or updated information.
