WINNIPEG - Thousands of people gathered at the Manitoba Legislature to show support for Ukraine as the country fights back against a Russian invasion.
Organizers estimate the crowd at 5,000 with many of them carrying Ukrainian flags and signs of support.
The rally on Saturday evening, hosted by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, featured a number of speakers including premier Heather Stefanson and mayor Brian Bowman.
"Tonight we are sending Vladimir Putin a message. Manitoba stands with the people of Ukraine and we stand against this unjustified invasion," said Stefanson.
The Legislative building has been lit up blue and yellow, the colours of the flag of Ukraine.
