WINNIPEG - Manitoba is changing how it's testing people for COVID-19.
In hopes of cutting the backlog of PCR lab tests, the province will be handing out rapid tests at its testing sites which Manitobans can take home with them.
Dr. Jazz Atwal says with the Omicron variant spreading quickly, this is the best way to get everyone tested for the virus.
The backlog currently sits at almost 7,000. In other words, for every case that's detected, there are as many as 10 undetected cases.
Yesterday's daily case count hit a new record high, 1,790, and test positivity has topped 40 per cent.
