WINNIPEG - RCMP in Manitoba are cracking down on violent crime in rural areas.
The Mounties have formed a Strategic Enforcement Response Team to deal with a systemic rise in violent crime in some communities outside of Winnipeg.
They say crime rates are often driven by street gangs and prolific offenders and the team will address this by first gathering intelligence and then targeting the causes.
The first such deployment came in Moose Lake last month.
