WINNIPEG - Candice Bergen has submitted her letter of resignation as the longtime MP for the Manitoba riding of Portage-Lisgar.
She announced her decision after the weekly Conservative caucus meeting.
Bergen did not divulge her plans for the future.
Manitoba finance minister Cameron Friesen had already announced he would be leaving provincial politics to seek the nomination in Bergen’s riding.
He is among several Tory MLAs who have announced they will be not running in the province’s election expected in October.
After 14 years as an MP I’m looking forward to the next chapter of life. Thank you Portage-Lisgar and Canada for the honour pic.twitter.com/2L11QFCQ2F
