Manitoba Hit With Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Wrongful Death Suit

WINNIPEG - The family of a Manitoba woman who died while being transferred from hospital in Brandon to another province during the covid-19 pandemic is suing the provincial government and health care providers.

Heather Mousseau was among dozens of patients sent elsewhere because of a bed shortage in 2021 but she suffered a cardiac arrest after being taken to a waiting plane.

The wrongful death lawsuit alleges the province contributed to her death by cutting ICU beds in 2019.

The suit also names medical staff, claiming they allowed Mousseau to leave the hospital while she was in unstable condition and at severe risk.

The allegations have not been proven in court.
