Manitoba Flood Watch Issued

Flood Watch Issued

WINNIPEG - Because of rain and snowmelt, the province has issued a flood watch for the Red River.

Manitoba's Hydrologic Forecast Centre says the Red will spill over its banks in some spots between Emerson and the Floodway.

Peak flows on the river are expected for about a week starting on Friday.

The Floodway is usually not used to divert water around Winnipeg unless there's no ice upstream from its gates.

Any ice should be gone by the end of the week so the Floodway could be used if it's needed.
