Doctor's Sex Trial In Doubt

WINNIPEG - Lawyers for a Manitoba doctor accused of sexual assault say they plan to apply for a judicial stay of proceedings.

Dr. Arcel Bissonnette faces 22 counts of sexual assault against female patients when he worked in Ste. Anne between 2004 and 2017.

The trial adjourned on Wednesday after the defence raised concerns about missing evidence.

Defence attorneys says their application for a stay would be on the grounds of abuse of process and late evidence disclosure.

The case will be back in court on Monday.
