Free Weekend At Manitoba Parks

Free Weekend At Parks

WINNIPEG - The province is once again offering free entry at provincial parks throughout the September long weekend to enjoy nature in its final few moments of summer.

Vehicle permits won’t be required at all provincial parks until Tuesday, though regular camping fees will still apply. There are 92 provincial parks throughout Manitoba, taking up nearly ten million acres of boreal forest, prairie grassland, beaches, lakes, rivers, and historic sites.

Conservation and Climate Minister Sarah Guillemard says we can all use a little break. “We want all Manitobans to enjoy the amenities and the scenery of our beautiful provincial parks, and our annual free entry weekends provide a chance to get outdoors and enjoy nature,” Guillemard says. “As we think about the end of the summer, we can embrace the fall with a free visit to a Manitoba provincial park.”

Several campsites in provincial parks will stay open throughout the fall, so campers can stick around as late as Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, the province says it’s getting ready to welcome open-air classrooms into its provincial parks as the school year kicks off this week. Provincial staff will provide free educational programs and field trips for students, with trail hikes, exploration, and other curriculum-based activities.

To find a park near you or decide where to travel for a day trip, you can check out the map of parks in the province at the Manitoba Conservation and Climate website.

You can make campsite reservations by visiting the Manitoba Parks website, or by calling the Parks Reservation Service toll-free at 1-888-482-2267.
