Floodway Won't Be Needed

WINNIPEG - The province's latest flood forecast says the Red River Floodway likely won't be needed this year.

The Manitoba Hydrologic Forecast Centre says spring runoff from snowmelt has started in most of the southern basins.

Water levels on the Red are rising about 30 centimetres a day.

The river is expected to peak in Emerson between Thursday and Sunday and it should stay within its banks.

The Assiniboine and other rivers will start seeing runoff later this week.
