WINNIPEG - A month after first being detected here, the COVID-19 Delta variant has made its way to all areas of Manitoba.
The province reported 83 cases of the B1617 strain yesterday. That's an increase of 65 cases just since last week.
Most of the spread is due to close contacts of confirmed cases but 13 of the cases came through community transmission.
Delta which originated in India is up to 50 percent more transmissible than B117 which is the current dominant strain. As well, early studies indicate COVID vaccines are less effective against B1617.
