Catalytic Converter Theft Grows In Manitoba

Converter Theft Grows

WINNIPEG - There's been an alarming rise in the theft of catalytic converters from vehicles.

Winnipeg Police say almost 1,500 converters have been stolen this year which compares to less than 300 in 2020.

One company in the city has had six converters ripped from employees' trucks and SUVs in the last five weeks.

Manitoba RCMP are also receiving more calls about stolen catalytic converters.

Mounties in Dauphin have received 10 complaints in just the past few weeks.

Catalytic converters are part of a car's exhaust system which contains valuable materials that can be sold to scrap dealers.
