WINNIPEG - The leader of the People's Party of Canada is expected to declare his candidacy in a Manitoba byelection.
A news release says Maxime Bernier, a former Conservative cabinet minister who quit to form the CCP in 2018, will make an announcement on Friday about the upcoming vote in the Portage-Lisgar riding.
The byelection was prompted in February when longtime Tory MP Candice Bergen stepped down.
Bernier railed against lockdowns and other restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic and was arrested in this province in 2021 for breaking public health orders.
Max ---there was a warrant for your arrest in Manitoba and you skipped to avoid the judge. Are you still wanted by the courts here?
