Badly Needed Rain

WINNIPEG - Thunderstorms, Heat Collide Across Manitoba, With Sun Returning for the Weekend

Despite a midweek risk of thunderstorms, Manitoba is still in for lots of sun in the coming week, with a high of 30 C in Winnipeg, 36 with the Humidex, and a very high UV index of 9.

Meteorologists say a risk of severe thunderstorms passed through parts of southern Manitoba Wednesday morning, with heat and humidity coupled with a slow-moving cold front moving east causing some unstable weather conditions.

A thunderstorm watch issued by Environment Canada said weather conditions could have resulted in damaging wind and large hail, in addition to possible torrential rainfall. Severe thunderstorms can also produce tornadoes.

Thursday night and Friday morning will bring even more rainfall welcomed by many, and temperatures will dip over the weekend before soaring back to 32 C next Tuesday.
