WINNIPEG - Shared Health Manitoba says the Alberta government is offering to help take ICU patients, as hospitalizations due to COVID-19 continue to rise. The two provinces say they’ve reached an agreement for the western neighbour to take up to 10 patients from Manitoba hospitals if needed.
Shared Health says a man in his 30s who had been transported to an Ontario ICU on May 20 has died, noting that ICU patients with COVID-19 continue to be transferred out of the province in an effort to manage a spike in the demand for ICU beds.
In May, there were 253 patients admitted to ICU for COVID-19, five times the number of patients who were admitted in April. So far, more than 40 critically ill COVID-19 patients have been taken out of the province since May 18.
