ST. ANDREWS – An 85 year-old man from Winnipeg drowned in Netley Creek on August 19 just before noon.

The man had swum out from shore to retrieve his boat that had drifted away from the launch and witnesses say he began having difficulty in the water next to his boat before going under.

Another boater near him jumped into the water and grabbed ahold of him until officers and another boater arrived to help him out of the water.

Once on shore, officers conducted CPR until EMS arrived. The man was taken to hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries.

Selkirk RCMP along with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continue to investigate.
