19-Year-Old Woman Stabbed in Broad Daylight

WINNIPEG – A 19-year-old woman was stabbed Wednesday afternoon near Edmonton Street and Quappelle Avenue, a 26-year-old man has been charged.

Police say they responded to a call just before 3:30 PM. When officers arrived the found a 19-year-old woman with several stab wounds to her upper body. She was taken to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable where she remains at this time.

While police were searching the area they located a male suspect and after a short foot pursuit took the him into custody.

Police said they learned that the victim was sitting outside in the 400 block of Edmonton Street when a man approached her and began to argue. The man pulled out a knife from his waistband and stabbed the victim several times. After the attack, the suspect grabbed a backpack from a 39-year-old man who was also sitting in the area, threatened him and took off.

Miguel Gerald Thomas, a 26-year-old man from Winnipeg, has been charged with Robbery, Possess Weapon, Carry Concealed Weapon, and Utter Threats.
