Goldeyes Open 2018 Season With a Loss

WINNIPEG – The boys of summer opened up their regular season schedule Friday night in Cleburne and fell 3-2 to the Railroaders at The Depot at Cleburne Station.

After a scoreless first six inning, Andrew Sohn would smack a double off the wall and Josh Mazzola would come around to score, putting Winnipeg up 1-0.

Cleburn answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 7th to take a 2-1 lead, but Ryanaldo Rodriguez would lead off the top of the eighth with a home run to left-centre, tying the game at two.

In the bottom of the ninth, Axel Johnson sent a double to the outfield, driving home Micheal Pair with the game-winning run, giving the Railroaders the 3-2 win.

Goldeyes starter Charlie Rosario pitched six shutout innings in his first action of the season, giving up four hits, walking one and striking out nine.

Alex Boshers took the loss for Winnipeg, allowing one earned run in one and one-third relief innings.

The Goldeyes and Railroaders play game two of their three-game series Saturday night at 7:06 p.m. Kevin McGovern (0-0, 0.00) takes on right-hander Patrick Young (0-0, 0.00)
