BRANDON, MB - A 56 year old woman was transported to Winnipeg after being struck by a vehicle and a 53 year old man was charged with Obtaining Sexual Services from a Person Under 18 Years of Age.
Police said a vehicle struck a pedestrian at 18th Street and Queens Avenue around 8:40 AM. A 56-year-old female pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious head injuries and was later transported to a Winnipeg Hospital. The woman remains in hospital and her condition has been upgraded to stable. Police said that a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado truck operated by an adult female driver was travelling Eastbound on Queens Avenue and turned to drive North on 18th Street when it struck the pedestrian who was walking eastbound across 18th Street. A determination of what charges, if any will be made upon completion of the investigation and examination of the evidence.
Monday, February 19th police received a report from a downtown business that a female used a counterfeit $100 bill to purchase a small item. After the transaction was completed and the female received change, the employee noticed the note to be counterfeit. Police reviewed the video surveillance and were able to identify the female suspect. On Tuesday afternoon, police went to the home of the suspect in the 800 Block of 9th Street and the suspect resisted arrest. After being subdued and taken into custody, the female was found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine. A search of the residence located two machetes. A male resident of the home was also present and turned over $2000 in counterfeit $100 bills to officers. The 41-year-old female from Brandon was arrested for Possession of Counterfeit Money X2, Use Counterfeit Money, Fraud, Resist Arrest, Possession of Cocaine and Breach of Court Order X3. The 56-year-old man from Brandon was arrested for Possession of Counterfeit Money.
As part of an ongoing investigation of approximately one week into sexually exploited youth and specifically a 16-year-old female victim, police have arrested a 53-year-old Brandon man this week. Police said the investigation determined that the suspect paid a female youth for sexual services and threatened her if she reported it to Police. The 53 year old was arrested for Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration from a Person Under 18 Years and Uttering Threats.
